My contribution to the Character Website/Blog Tour:
We have been asked to do a character blog for a work in progress. Here is just a tidbit of information on what we are working on right now.
1) What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?
Dani Saxon. Dani is a fictional character set in modern times.
2) When and where is the story set?
The story is set in the middle of nowhere out in the back country of Pennsylvania. Dani has a large property there, one she inherited from her uncle. The place is pretty much self-sufficient, so she spends a lot of time in the old apple orchards surrounding her home or driving around the countryside, looking for hidden treasures to refurbish and bring back to their former glory.
3) What should we know about him/her?
Dani is a loner and a bit quirky. She spends a lot of time by herself or with her four legged friends than with other people and is most comfortable that way. She loves to work with her hands, to focus her attention on the antiques she collects, spending hours refinishing them and making them beautiful. Like many people who spend a lot of time alone, she has lost a bit of her social skills. She isn’t used to sharing and misses social cues at times. Perhaps it is because she has a bit of ADD, or perhaps it has to do with past experiences, but sometimes she has a hard time deciphering the messages people are giving her.
4) What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?
Dani is used to having things a certain way and isn’t used to people in her personal space. She spent a good chunk of her young adulthood taking care of her uncle before he passed away, and as such, is more mature than someone her age usually is. She is also a very open book sort of person who takes things on face value. When she is asked to take in Allyse De Leon for a month as a house guest, she grudgingly agrees since the request came from the only person she can’t refuse-the only family member she has left. Allyse needs somewhere to go where she would actually rest and take a break from her high stress job, and Dani gets the idea her job is to babysit and make sure Allyse does just that. Having another person in her house takes some getting used to and it doesn’t help that Allyse seems intent on having her own way. It’s not exactly a hostile takeover, but Allyse doesn’t let up the pressure, especially after she discovers that Dani is a lesbian.
5) What is the personal goal of the character?
Dani just wants to be left alone and live a peaceful life.
6) Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?
Rest and Relaxation is the working title. It’s still in its draft form, so nothing to show right now. Unfortunately, everyone will have to wait for now. Unlike Ladysmith or Switching Gears, Rest and Relaxation is one of those fun, quirky, summer romances that is designed to leave the reader with that “feel good” sensation that we all love in a good romance.
7) When can we expect the book to be published?
We are looking for a fall release, definitely before the end of 2014.
Many thanks to Doreen Perrine for inviting us to join the tour. Doreen’s next book is Kid, which will be released in September through Bedazzled Ink. Her character blog can be found at http://doreenperrine.tripod.com/id17.html.
